PHP Class: DataDump

Been working on this on and off for the past few weeks (mainly off if I'm honest). Not sure how useful this will be, but here goes! Basically, this is sort of a utility class designed to let you see the results of a search query in a number of formats: an array, un-ordered lists or a table. This can either be printed or returned as a variable for later use. The idea behind this was to let the developer ...

Dans Paris

December 22nd, 2007

Got back from my two-day trip to Paris with my girlfriend yesterday, had a lovely time, and read a very good book called ‘The Forever War’, the first book if the Science Fiction Masterworks collection I’m trying to get through. One interesting thing I thought I’d share was seeing the Eiffel Tower. It is really, really big, and I found it quite funny when I realised, while looking at it from the bottom, that my brain couldn’t quite muster the depth perception required, so it looked like one of those fold-out picture books on a grander scale. Hmmm.

Using Wordpress as a CMS

During my time at Active Webdezign, my knowledge of the intracies of the Wordpress system meant that using Wordpress as a simple CMS was commonplace, which meant the coding/implementation mainly fell on my shoulders. The basic process was I was handed a sitemap and a CSS/XHTML template of the design, and then built the site, including structure, templatesm a custom contact form plus skinning and editing the administration section. The reason I haven't decided to split ...

WhySearch Extranet

WhySearch are an SEO company, who needed a simple, accessible extranet to allow the management and clients to view leads and calculate commission. The site was built using Object-Orientated PHP (my first attempt at this style of programming) and a MySQL database. The system allowed the administrator to create clients and leads, and each client gets an individual login to view only their leads.

Top of the class

It’s quiet on the interwebs, isn’t it. Admittably, I have been busy at work, grinding my druid, and playing the old rugger, but I should a PHP class I’m working on in ‘beta’ soon, i.e. finished until someone points out a bug/’improvement’ to me. Stay tuned…

Links with your tea?

December 4th, 2007

Slow week for my brain at the moment, so enjoy some links in the meantime:

24Ways: The advent calendar for web developers, every day up until the 24th a tutorial is posted, and some of them are even useful. I make joke!

FreeRice: Nice little charity thingy-ma-bob. You have to guess the meaning of words, and for every word you get right, 20 grains of rice are donated. And it’s not a simple as you think, as the word list changes depending on your success. For instance, I’ve been getting words such as ichtyic and imbibe. Good fun.
