RWC 2007: Best National Team

October 21st, 2007

For a side whose players play in Europe, who don’t really get any financial benefits for playing for their country due to the stubborn amateur union, and who have field several amateur players this World Cup, Argentina were simply the stars of the show. And unfortunately England did not win the final, but full credit to the South Africans, they were the better side on the day by far, and what a gracious team as well. Of all the southern hemisphere giants that were in contention for the trophy, I’m glad SA succeeded, as opposed to the Aussies, who don’t really like us English anyway, or the All Blacks and their supporters, who seemed to think turning up would suffice. But previous cups have showed us, the team who can win close games most consistently usually go all the way, and NZ do not meet that criteria. But good job to SA, see you in four years!

The old ruggers

It's been a funny old season this year. Even though it feels like we've haven't done as well as last year, we have. We got three victories, over The Leys, Qeen ELizabeth Boys and the mighty Felsted. Same number of victories as the 1st XV. But, as Mr.Luke, our couch, put it last night, on top of that we 'lost five, and got stuffed in six of them'. I think it's probably the coach as well. He's probably a better coach ...
