A Working Man

That’s it. Finito. All my schoolboy days are officially over, which is rather inevitably both exciting and at the same time quite sad. It hasn’t really hit me yet: as far as I’m concerned I’m going back to school next September, and I’m just waiting for that moment when my heart catches up with my mind. This will most likely happen in September, when my closest friend begins his endeavours into the field of theoretical physics at Bristol Uni while I indulge in my gap year. There’s two good things about my gap year from this point of view: firstly, I’m having a break from formal education for a year so my mind doesn’t rot, and secondly, I’ll enjoy Uni more when I finally get there because I could possibly be desperately bored. But anyway, it’s a big wide world out there, but an exciting one also.

Pretty much finished the forum I’ve been working on (nice little rugby place). It’s kitted up to the specification laid out in the book, so it’s got a fair wealth of features: Live Admin Controls, E-mail Verification on Registering … all the bog-standard stuff. There’s a few things I want to add, namely a full-admin control panel, a la the Wordpress equivalent, and also improve the style and image posting features. One of the later projects is a sort of Wiki with a nice back-end, and I’ve looked over it fervently and I have some ideas which could lead to a release of sorts … hmmm. Anyway, the nice thing about working on such projects is I’m gearing up the photography website I promised I’d make for my girlfriend, and I think in a few months time I’ll be at a suitable level.

Besides programming and socialising, the other passtime I’ve delved into in the increasingly addictive World of Warcraft. Oh dear, this is quite a bit of fun, and I’ve only got 4 days left on my trial. Today I managed to hit the level cap on one of my characters, and a financial dilemma has arisen: do I go the distance? Luckily, I’m not 18 for another 2 months, so I’m sure my attention will be elsewhere at the crucial time, so it looks like my wallet is safe … for now.
