Heroes & Villains

Heroes is amazing. They showed the first two episodes on the UK ‘SCi-FI’ channel (it’s due to start on BBC2 soon as well), and I was instantly hooked. So, like all good Cult TV Show addicts, I ’somehow’ managed to get my hands on the rest of the episodes so far: I just watched number 13. I can easily say that so far, this is better than LOST ever was, even right at the beginning when it sucked in so many millions of viewers with it’s enthralling dialogue and endless (literally) tension. What I like about Heroes is that it doesn’t lose that aspect of mystery, fear and apprenhension of these new powers that people seem to be experiencing, instead placing a more realistic (as far as possible) spin on the events. Brilliant stuff.

Speaking of brilliant stuff, Final Fantasy XII is just that! I’ve been meaning to write a post on my University choice to help me clear my head and get the factors written down, but this little beasty has absorbed about 8 hours of my time over the last two days. One thing that strikes me is the similarities with a little known Squaresoft gem known as Vagrant Story, which came out a number of years ago to much critical, but not commerical, acclaim. This was at first most obvious in the character design and dialogue, but the battle system as wells borrows from this to a large extent, as the general feel of crawling through several dungeon like landscapes brings back fond memories. A great source of inspiration for this great fable, the mark of a good RPG is the volume of will power required to withdraw yourself from the encapsulating adventure, which, believe me, FFXII does with a ruthless potency.

I’ve recently gotten into Heroes as well and managed to somehow get my hands on the episodes as well :). I’ve just seen the 4th episode and can say that, from what I’ve seen, it starts off slowly and gets better and better. I am looking forward to seeing the rest over the next week or so.

I fancy giving final fantasy XII a go as well, but i just don’t have the free time. I could buy it but then it would just get put in the cupboard with all the other games I keep meaning to play.
