Rugby World Cup!
October 6th, 2007
I cannot believe it, I have to vent this here, because the results at today’s matches at the Rugby World Cup are quite simply unbelieveable. I’m a huge rugby fan, and a rugby player myself, and some phenomenal scorelines have happened today.
Australia 10 – 12 England
Australia are probably the form team of the tournamen, besides the All Blacks, and it looked extremely unlikely leading up to this match that we could impose a serious challenge. Until a certain Andrew Sheridan stepped up to the plate. He quite simply bulldozed his way around in the open and smashed his opposite number in the scrum. It was a forwards day today, an incredbile effort and we just edged out the team who were looking for revenge for the 2003 final regardless of poor goal kicking. Awesome.
New Zealand 18 – 20 France
New Zealand have been pretty much unstoppable since the last world cup, and have been preparing for this one for 3 years, and they have just been beaten by the most hot-or-cold side in the games history. France lost their opening pool game to Argentina at their own World Cup, evidently show nerves and cold feet, and yet they have just pulled off the performance of their lives to win in dramatic fashion. But poor New Zealand, 4 more years of work, and very unfortunate to have lost both they’re primary playmakers to injury (Nick Evans and Dan Carter) with 25 minutes to go, and they lost they’re heads, though France did also, but only because they were charging into every ruck and tackle headfirst!
Slightly unrelated, but I played my first game for Old Millhillians 2nd XV today, won 36-26, so it was a great day for Northern Hemisphere rugby. Now to the finals!
