‘Get Firefox’ Banner: Future Upgrades
My little plugin has been quite a success. It’s certainly driven a fair amount of traffic here. And a fair number of comments, asking about more functionality and features, so I’m going to list the upgrades I’ve got in mind for the first stable release (i.e. 1.0). And I’m doing it on here because I can.
Positioning of the banner (fixed or absolute)(see Progress below)- Close button on the banner, a small x or something
- Posting <script> tags in the banner (i.e. For javascript referrals)
- Ability to choose between IE6, IE7 and IE6&IE7 for the affected browsers
- Make compbatible with all 2.x versions of Wordpress
When I’ve got some more time (since I am writing this at work but ssshhhh), I may consider having the CSS managed using a series of fields with a colour wheel. Just got to work out how to do it.
Any other suggestions will be welcomed.
Progress
- The prince of ironies! I tried to get it to stay at the top of the viewer window in both IE7 and 6, and it only worked in IE7 … in IE6 it just sat at the bottom of the page. Oh dear. This is now scrapped.
- Haven’t looked into this yet
- This works in the current version. I tested it with a friend’s Firefox referral code, shown below this list, which works! So go ahead a put your adsense links in the current version if you want, and let me know if there are any bugs.
- Just set this up. Two tickboxes which toggle the display for each CSS hack to ‘block’ if ticked and none if not. Only thing is I just noticed that the banner doesn’t stretch across the whole page in IE6, so I’m looking into this now.
- Should work now in all 2.x versions.
Below is the HTML code I pasted into the textarea in order to test point 3

Dude,
I’m with WordPress 2.0.2 and this plugin gives a blank options page!
Completely? Might have something to do with to admin menu system … any errors in the ‘Plugins’ page too? I’ll put that on my to-do list.
No error in the plugins page.
When I switch to options page of the plugin, only the top level menus are getting displayed along with this sentence beneath the top level menu: “Get Firefox” Banner Options.
A blank page beneath this line.
So thats means it the form thats messing up, at least it’s adding the page to the menu. Right I’ll get working on that .
